Expanding upon turntablist performance practice, Erik Spangler (Ph.D. Harvard University 2004) performs “fizzy, angular susurrations” (Ann Arbor Observer) and patterns on diverse electronics, creating music ranging from “a skillful merger of recorded … phrases flecked with DJ turntable effects” (Washington Post) to “rigorous … improvisatory” (Gramophone) compositions with a range of chamber ensembles. His music may be heard on Innova Recordings, indie hip-hop label Nonsense Records, and live in spaces ranging from academic concert halls to art galleries, from clubs to sidewalks.
Jordan Faye Block is owner of both Jordan Faye Contemporary & BE, a unique, 2700 square foot mixed-use exhibition space and event venue. Curator and art impresario, Jordan Faye Block received her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. In 2006, Ms. Block launched Jordan Faye Contemporary, whose mission was and still is to expose a larger community to the engaging and thought-provoking work of dozens of artists. In September 2009, Jordan Faye Contemporary moved into it’s permanent home in Federal Hill at 1401 Light Street Baltimore, MD. This historic building was once one of the four original Enoch Pratt Library neighborhood branches (1886-1971). Ms. Block’s second business has been gaining momentum in Baltimore and is closing on its first year at the new location. This new endeavor aptly named BE (Block Events) was launched in November 2009 to support her passion for promoting all arts thru events for both the greater community & the artistic community. The Salon Series, The New Mercury Reading Series, & The Federal Hill Parlor Series are all a part of what BE & Jordan Faye Contemporary work in unison to promote.
