The TED commandments of public speaking
Do you all remember how jazzed I was after attending Ignite Baltimore 6?
Well, I just got this email today and wanted to share it with you, dear readers. Have you thought about what you would say in five minutes with 20 slides? I encourage you to send in your application now. Ignite Baltimore is all about big ideas. Don’t hold back!

Greetings, friends –

2011 is here which means Ignite Baltimore #7 is just around the corner (03/10/11). And, as of now, we’re officially accepting speaking proposals.

What are we looking for? Anything goes as long as it’s interesting and entertaining, and something that the speaker is passionate about.

We want a good mix of “serious and informative” talks alongside “fun and entertaining” talks. The ideal Ignite talk would be serious and informative yet fun and entertaining!

We avoid selecting sales-oriented talks (where the speaker seems to want to pitch his/her company or organization directly) and talks that seem overly biographical. Ignite is an idea-driven event, so we want to hear more about big ideas and less about personal philosophies.

Proposals can be submitted any time at:

http://ignitebaltimore.com/proposals/new

If you have questions feel free to email us at [email protected].

We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

– The Ignite Baltimore Team

What are you still waiting for? Want some examples of great Ideal talks? Check out Brian Sacawa’s Hybridity: Remaking the (New) Musical Horizon in Baltimore – Ignite Baltimore 5 or Brendan Cooke’s “Saving Opera One Voice at a Time” – Ignite Baltimore 5

Oh, you want to tell me all about your big ideas in the comments below?

Well, okay, if you insist…

give it a shot Megan. It was a great experience! If you do have a proposal accepted, I put together my “if I knew then what I know now” report…in case I ever need to prepare a 5 minute, 20ppt slide talk again! http://wp.me/pHbUg-3P

Brendan – I would definitely be interested in reading that report! I think I just might send in my proposal. Thanks for being an inspiration.
